Politics seems to always on peoples minds now. What the various governments and their opposition is up to fills each nights news headlines.
Justin Trudeau this, Pierre Poilievre that. Freeland this and Eby that.
Years ago a government that was working well on behalf of the people was quietly working away without a PR machine in action 24/7. The best government was one that was invisible to the public.
Now people have become dependant on the government. Various subsidy programs, social programs, requests for new laws etc fill the demands. When did we become such a Nanny state.
People are always looking for a fix. House prices, gas prices, grocery prices, bank charges, wages arent going up, the grass is too high on my street, I want more grass in my streets. In everything government is demanded to fix it.
Here is the truth. None of those in government are miracle workers. Many times they throw everything at the wall hoping it will stick.
House prices are a prime example. It’s the foreign investors fault, no it’s the fault of all the Covid benefits, it is the greedy developers, it’s because municipalities move too slow, it’s because interest rates are too high, its because money was too cheap and easy to get, it’s the fault of the foreign students let in, its because of the demand, it’s because of the supply.
Why so many theories? First of all it’s because of all of these things and more. How much is caused by these things? No one knows and difficult to measure so everything gets thrown into the pot. Much of the variety is about trying to lay blame or trying to avoid blame. Sad really in that it appears people are more worried about going after someone than actually solving the problem. Welcome to politics.
Keep your head down otherwise someone will take a shot at it. When safe jump up and tell people how hard you are working on their behalf.
Really disappointing to watch or maybe just cynical with my old age.
